THE DIVING – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Many of the dives in Mozambique we do on this tour are deep dives (24-30m) and Advanced Open Water Certification is required. It is possible for divers with Open Water Certification only to do the Deep Dive Module of the Advanced Open Water Course and to join the group on the remaining deep dives upon completion. Contact us for details.

We also require all divers to carry dive travel insurance including medical evacuation coverage. All boats are equipped with first aid kits and oxygen, however the nearest recompression chamber is in Richards Bay, South Africa. Medical facilities in Mozambique are well below the western standard.

The airport serving the Tofo area is 20km from Tofo in the city of Inhambane . Emergency medical evacuation can be arranged in a matter of hours. Excellent medical care is available in South Africa .

We recommend Divers Alert Network (DAN) Travel Insurance as DAN Southern Africa is best prepared to deal with dive related emergencies in Mozambique .

Due to the lack of a recompression chamber in Mozambique a very strong emphasis is placed on dive safety, both by us and by the dive operators in Tofo. Any diver who demonstrates a careless or reckless disregard for safety, thereby endangering themselves or others in the group, will receive a refund for their remaining dives and will not be permitted to dive with the group for the duration of the tour. Diving in Mozambique has a great record of safety and we want to keep it that way.

That said, the diving in Mozambique is fantastic and fun!

Tofo boasts reefs that are home to multiple Manta Ray cleaning stations and it is not uncommon to see 10+ Mantas on one dive. Manta Rays are seen in Tofo all year !

Whale Sharks may also be encountered year round.  June through November is the annual Humpback Whale migration. Whale song is frequently heard on dives and Whale sightings from boats or from the shore are extremely common during this time.  With fantastic schools of Devil Rays, White Tip and Leopard Sharks, Turtles and an abundance of large game fish, the diving in Tofo is spectacular all year round.

However, the reefs are also home to a wide variety of tropical underwater life from Geometric Morays to Harlequin Shrimp to Frog Fish – for when you have seen too many Mantas!
